On the night of April 30th, officers arrested a suspect after the officers arrived at a loud party and heard gunfire as people were leaving the area.
On April 30th at 10:39 pm, officers responded to a complaint of a loud party on the 2200 block of Sixth Street. When officers arrived, they saw a crowd of people leaving the building and remained at the scene as people left the area. While there, an officer heard gunfire and saw bystanders pointing out a vehicle fleeing the area.
Officers were able to catch up with the vehicle a few blocks away. Because of the likelihood that the vehicle’s occupants may have been armed, officers conducted a high-risk car stop with several officers and both of the vehicle’s occupants were detained without further incident.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found a loaded handgun discarded just under the passenger-side door.
The passenger (a 28-year-old Richmond woman) was arrested on suspicion of willfully discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, making criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as several other weapons-related crimes.
