Berkeley, California (Tuesday, September 15, 2020) - On August 10th at 5:02 pm, a television news camera person was loading his van at Congregation Netivot Shalom (1316 University Avenue) when a suspect robbed the camera person at gunpoint—taking a $25k video news camera (see video of robbery).
After reviewing video surveillance of the robbery, detectives were able to develop information about the suspect’s identity—leading to a search/arrest warrant of the suspect.
On September 10th, officers conducted a search of the suspect’s Hayward residence with the assistance of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. While there, officers recovered items related to the robbery and nearly an ounce of methamphetamine packaged for sales.
On September 11th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect (Jimmy Ray, Male, 22 years old, Hayward, CA) with PC 211—Robbery, HS 11378—possession for sale of controlled substances and other criminal enhancements.
