COVID-19 Restrictions

California's economy has reopened with some local and statewide guidance.

Local restrictions

Local health jurisdictions, like Berkeley Public Health, may impose stricter rules than the State if they choose.

Face Covering restrictions

Effective April 3, 2023, City of Berkeley has implemented a masking order for Skilled Nursing Facilities, to ensure that employees and contractors, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a high-quality well-fitting mask whenever they are in patient/resident care areas or in the presence of patients/residents in the facility.

For masking guidance in all other settings, including in K-12 schools and childcare, please see the Statewide restrictions section below as Berkeley has aligned with the State's updated face masking guidance as of April 3, 2023.

Statewide restrictions

Statewide Masking Guidance

The California Department of Public Health provides masking guidance that each individual should consider based on their unique circumstances.

Statewide Employer/Business Restrictions

All business sectors restrictions such as distancing and capacity limits are lifted. Employers must continue to follow Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Regulations.

Effective April 3, 2023 the State no longer has vaccination requirements for healthcare workers, including those in adult care, direct care, correctional facilities, and detention centers. Federal rules continue to ensure that most healthcare workers remain vaccinated for COVID-19.
