Community members who would like to help can donate through Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services.
Fraud Alert
A phishing scam is targeting Berkeley clients with fraudulent invoices. Take steps to protect from fraud:
- Before replying to invoice requests, verify that the message is from a legitimate email address ending in @cityofberkeley.info or @berkeleyca.gov.
- The Berkeley Planning and Development Department will never call you for payment and will never ask you to wire funds.
- If you are unsure about a request for payment you have received, please email planning@berkeleyca.gov. Report fraud attempts to Berkeley Police at (510) 981-5900.
All Berkeley residents and businesses will see a new StopWaste Regulatory Fee on their monthly garbage bills starting July 1. This fee is administered across Alameda County and is used to support programs that help reduce edible food, recyclable and compostable materials, and plastic bags from ending up in local landfills. These programs are required to be operational by the State of California.
For most customers, the StopWaste Regulatory Fee adds on average 0.6 percent, or about 30 cents, to their monthly garbage bill. For more information, please visit StopWaste’s page on its Regulatory Fee and its FAQ page. Contact regulatoryfee@stopwaste.org if you have questions.
The City is no longer accepting special event permit applications for new or expanded 2026 events. This does not affect returning Berkeley events or events already in the 2026 permitting queue. Permit applications are being accepted for 2027 events.
