Berkeley Animal Care Services is temporarily closed to the public until further notice following a fire at the shelter. All animals are safe and unharmed, and we will share updates as more information becomes available.

Community members who would like to help can donate through Friends of Berkeley Animal Care Services.

The Berkeley Animal Shelter provides a safe haven for homeless pets from the cities of Berkeley, Albany, Piedmont, and Emeryville. 

The City’s animal shelter provides adoption services, advice on animal-related topics, lost and found pet reports, and free or low-cost spay/neuter vouchers for Berkeley residents’ dogs and cats.

Volunteer or donate to support the Animal Shelter

Support Berkeley’s Animal Shelter by volunteering your time, or with monetary or in-kind donations:

  • Monetary donations: Send a check made out to the City of Berkeley to 1 Bolivar Dr, Berkeley, CA 94710.
  • In-kind donations: towels, sheets, pillow cases, blankets. Please do not send us anything that is stuffed (no stuffed animals, pillows, or stuffed comforters).
