Ashby East Lot Developer Presentations

Join us to hear from two developer teams being considered for future affordable housing at the Ashby BART East Lot and provide feedback on their qualifications.

The teams seeking to create future affordable housing at Ashby BART station’s East Lot will make public presentations at a City-sponsored event on Thursday, October 1, from 5:00–7:00 pm at the South Berkeley Senior Center, 2939 Ellis St.

Each team will make a brief presentation on its credentials, experience, and past projects. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A period for questions submitted from the audience. Event attendees will be encouraged to provide feedback on the developer teams via a survey. The evaluation panel may consider the survey results in finalizing the scoring of the two teams.

An evaluation panel with representatives from the City of Berkeley, BART, and the South Berkeley community reviewed proposals and selected two developer teams to advance to the presentation:

• Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA), Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley, and Deborah Matthews
• Related Companies, and The Kelsey

This event will focus on the two teams’ qualifications. It will not cover teams’ initial design proposals, which will undergo community input and standard process with the City.

Future of Ashby BART station’s East Lot

This fall, the highest scoring developer will be brought to City Council for authorization to proceed as the selected developer to engage with the City and the community to define a future housing development at the East Lot. At later community meetings, the selected team will share its vision for the site and there will be ample time for public comment and discussion.

The City of Berkeley made a commitment of $26.5 million toward affordable housing at Ashby station, including $8 million reserved for the Ashby East Lot.

The Ashby East Lot project is just one of a suite of housing projects under development at BART stations in Berkeley.

Ashby BART station’s West Lot

The Ashby West Lot project proposes hundreds of housing units, at least half of them affordable. It also includes retail, a public plaza, and improved BART access. The City has committed $18.5M to support affordable housing at Ashby West Lot. The City is contracted with affordable housing developer Resources for Community Development to support affordable housing projects as a part of this larger, multiphase development project.

The North Berkeley BART project proposes 269 units of affordable housing, including 85 permanent supportive housing apartments. The proposed design also includes a public parking garage, plaza, and bike paths. The City has committed $26.5 million to support affordable housing at North Berkeley BART. The development team is North Berkeley Housing Partners (NBHP).
