Join us for an online meeting to review proposed safety improvements at Cedar Street and Grant Street and share your feedback on the draft design.
Public Works is hosting an online informational session to present a draft conceptual design for a proposed new median refuge island on Cedar Street (at Grant Street) and solicit your input.
Cedar Street is a part of is part of Berkeley’s Vision Zero High-Injury Streets, the small percentage of City streets where a disproportionate number of people are killed or severely injured. Since 2016, there have been five reported collisions at the intersection of Cedar Street at Grant Street, including one serious injury collision involving a bicyclist.
A new concrete median refuge island will improve pedestrian and bicycle crossing safety on a High Injury Street (Cedar Street). This project is part of the 2026 Bike Plan, Tier 1 priority Grant Street Corridor Improvements and will support a future Grant Street Bicycle Boulevard (also part of the 2026 Bike Plan).
Proposed improvements include:
- A median refuge island for pedestrians and bikes and associated traffic diversion
- A fourth crosswalk, along the west side of the intersection
- Accessible curb ramps
- Improved connection for the proposed future Grant Street Bicycle Boulevard
Project funded by Measure FF SAFE STREETS.
