Fire Department
The Berkeley Fire Department protects life, property, and the environment through prevention, community preparedness, and emergency response.
Our objective is to prevent emergencies or reduce their severity through training, fire prevention, disaster readiness, and public education programs. We provide 24-hour response to emergencies including fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials events, water rescues, disaster response, and other life-threatening situations.
We have proudly served the Berkeley community since 1904 and continue to build a strong bond with the people we serve. We aim to be recognized as a leader that responds effectively with well-trained and compassionate professionals.
We serve the City of Berkeley, including the University of California Berkeley, totaling over 120,000 residents, responding to over 16,000 service calls each year.
