Shoshana O’Keefe is honored to serve as the Councilmember for District 5, representing the vibrant neighborhoods of North Berkeley and the Berkeley Hills. Born at Alta Bates Hospital and raised on Keeler Ave, Shoshana attended Berkwood Hedge Elementary, King Middle, and Berkeley High before earning degrees from Smith College and the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Before her election to City Council in 2024, Shoshana served on Berkeley’s Zoning Adjustments Board. During her 11-year tenure, which included two terms as Chair, she helped approve more than 10,000 units of new housing. Building on this experience, Shoshana is committed to expanding affordable housing opportunities and ensuring Berkeley remains a welcoming and inclusive community where families of all backgrounds can thrive.
A former immigration attorney, Shoshana dedicated her career to advocating for individuals and families navigating complex legal systems in search of safety and opportunity. Today, as a math and computer science teacher at Berkeley High, she works to inspire and prepare the next generation.
Shoshana lives on Spruce Street with her husband, two teenage sons, a cat named Charlie, and four backyard chickens. She welcomes residents to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas.
