PROJECT LOCATION
2821 West Bolivar Drive
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Aquatic Park Main Lagoon received both stormwater from West Berkeley and tidal water from the San Francisco Bay. The central tide tubes that connect the lagoon to the bay were once clogged with sediment and prevented bay water connectivity between the lagoon and the bay.
This project restored the existing operating capacity of the five 24-inch diameter central tide tubes located under Interstate 80 by cleaning out the accumulated sediment and replacing the sliding tide gates. The project also conducted an inspection and assessment of the central tide tubes to further inform the evaluation of rehabilitation method(s).
Construction began in August, 2020 and was completed in October, 2020 where the functionality of central tide tubes were restored to provide tidal exchange between the Bay and the lagoon.
