Request New Street Light
Current residents in Berkeley can request that the City install a new street light. To report issues with an existing street light, submit an online service request form.
Current residents in Berkeley can request that the City install a new street light.
Follow the steps below to request a new street light:
- Fill out an Application for a New Street Light
- Fill out the sketch map diagram on page 3 of the form with the proposed location of the street light and the residents’ names and the street numbers for each household on both sides of the block (for new street lights at intersections please include the information for all residents within a block of the proposed street light).
- Prepare a letter indicating neighborhood approval of the proposed light, signed by each of the residents indicated on the sketch map diagram
- Submit the completed form, diagram, and letter to publicworks@cityofberkeley.info
Approval for placement of a new Street Light is based in part on:
- Current existing City lighting (as measured in lumens by the City’s Public Works staff)
- Condition of existing poles at the proposed location
- Pedestrian and Bicycle Traffic
- Impacts to ADA Path of Travel
- Proximity to BART, Public Transit, Schools, Senior Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, and Hospitals
- Utility and tree conflicts
