Join us to plant trees. Our goal for the day is to plant ~100 new trees, shrubs, and native plants in areas near Shorebird Nature Center.
These new trees will help to replace some past lost tree canopy and add new green areas in the park.
Event Schedule:
- 9:30: Welcome, join into groups, sort out tools.
- 10:00-12:00: Plant trees, make friends, have fun!
- 12:00: Break for lunch.
- 12:30-1:00: We will offer a short tree walking tour around the park to see some of the different species of trees in the park and learn how they all work together to grow our urban forest.
Project Area: We will meet in the lawn area near the Shorebird Nature Center. The planting will occur in the rolling hill area west of the Nature Center.
Please dress for outdoor work, including long pants and closed toed shoes that can handle working in very wet grass, soil, and mud. Be prepared for any weather that could occur, including cooler temps and a strong Bay breeze. We have tools, but feel free to bring your own favorite shovel and work gloves. Bring a water bottle for hydrating.
Parking: Multiple parking areas are available throughout the Berkeley Waterfront. Some parking lots are suggested on the map, and additional lots are available, as well. Please double check to ensure a permit is not required.
Cycling: bike racks will be available for bike parking near the event.
Public Transportation: the AC Transit 51B bus line operated along University Ave and into the Berkeley Waterfront.
