Berkeley residents of all ages are invited to help clean up local beaches, bays, and waterways during the 38th annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 17 from 9:00 am–12:00 pm. Pre-register online and join thousands of California volunteers to clean up our coast.
Meet at shorebird park nature center
Meet at the Shorebird Park Nature Center at 160 University Ave, to receive a safety talk and supplies. Cleanup activities will take place along various areas of the Berkeley Waterfront as well as Aquatic Park.
Volunteers will help compile data about trash and marine debris for one of the largest research projects in the world.
Buckets, bags, and gloves will be available for volunteers. If you are able, please help us to reduce plastic waste by bringing your own supplies:
- Bring a bucket or reusable bag
- Bring a lightweight pair of gardening gloves
- Bring a filled, reusable water bottle
Participants can pre-register online or register in-person on the day of the event. All participants must complete a waiver. Youth under 18 must have a waiver completed by their legal guardian.

Organized groups (i.e. student organizations, service clubs, local businesses, scouting troops etc.) may also register online. Please direct individual participants to register themselves for the event. At checkout, mark "YES" when asked if you are part of an organized group. The next prompt will allow volunteers to list the name of their group.
