On May 7, 2026, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint on Shattuck Ave at Parker St.
851 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint. 8 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed. An additional 24 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads and providing public education.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
