Today, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against the suspect.
On November 3, Berkeley Police officers arrested a 66-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision at Ashby Avenue and Regent Street that claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman.
Just over two hours after the collision, officers located the suspect vehicle after receiving an alert from the City’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) network. Officers quickly located the vehicle and detained the driver.
Today, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against the suspect, including vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, along with several criminal enhancements.
We are grateful for our community’s continued trust and support, especially the witness whose actions provided a critical piece of information that helped officers locate the driver. We also appreciate the technology and coordinated police response that contributed to this investigation and helped bring the case before prosecutors.
Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones.
