On May 30th at approximately 12 pm, officers responded to an apartment building in the 1900 block of California Street after a property manager reported discovering a deceased person inside one of the units.
Upon arrival, officers located the body of the resident, a 37-year-old Berkeley woman, who appears to have died after a physical assault.
Based on evidence and information developed during the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the victim’s boyfriend, Damarcus Jones, on suspicion of murder.
Yesterday, detectives located Damarcus Jones in the City of Dixon—where they arrested him without incident. The Alameda County Coroner's Office are conducting an autopsy to determine the final cause of death. This case is currently being reviewed by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
We appreciate the community’s continued support throughout this investigation and are grateful for the efforts that led to the swift apprehension of the suspect.
