Berkeley, California (Wednesday, June 17, 2020) - Across our nation, the month of June is officially recognized as national LGBTQ Pride month, a time to recognize and support the LGBTQ community. This year, we again affirm the Berkeley Police Department's commitment to, and support of, the LGBTQ community within our Department, and within our city, in accordance with our dedication to safeguarding our diverse community, and treating all with dignity and respect.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic prevents us all from participating in the San Francisco Pride Celebration as we have for the past three years, but we again display the Pride flag in our lobby to convey our Department's support of, and service to, our LGBTQ community. This display will complement the Pride flag being flown from the main standard in Civic Center Park as well.
All employees, sworn and professional staff, may again optionally wear a Pride lapel pin, either on their uniform, or their plainclothes wear. These pins are being provided at no cost to all employees who would like them.
