Adults who want to quit smoking, e-cigarettes, or other tobacco products can join a free online, weeknight class to learn strategies, connect with peers, and get support.
The 8-session class meets online on Tuesday evenings. Everyone 18 and older who lives in the Bay Area and wants to quit tobacco products is welcome.
Berkeley Public Health will use a proven curriculum to give you tools to build a plan and help you succeed. Peer support in these classes will also give you much higher odds of quitting completely.
Those who attend the first five sessions and fill out a short survey will receive free nicotine patches and gum to help reduce their recovery symptoms.
Quitting is hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. Register by September 25 by email quitnow@berkeleyca.gov or phone: (510) 981-5330. Sessions start October 6.

Free support to help you quit
The personalized instruction, peer support, and nicotine replacement therapy you receive through this class increase your chance of successfully quitting by 50-60%.
The evidence-based curriculum from the American Lung Association has helped one million people quit for good.
Even if you’ve been smoking for years, you can start to feel the health benefits of quitting right away. In the first 24 hours, your risk of heart attack decreases. Within months, you’ll start to breathe easier and cough less.
Supporting wellness in Berkeley
The Quit Smoking class is organized by the Tobacco Prevention program of the Public Health Division, part of the Health, Housing, and Community Services Department.
In addition to this class, the division also manages the Smoke Free Multi-Unit Housing program. If you are experiencing second-hand smoke from a neighbor in your building, you can submit a complaint form to the City.
Public Health offers services and classes to support the community’s well-being. At the West Berkeley Family Wellness Center, you can attend free yoga, pottery painting, gardening, cooking, and birthing classes.
