Berkeley, California (Thursday, October 8, 2020) - On October 8th at 3:09 am, an officer saw a vehicle (Nissan) fail to stop at several stop signs in the area of King Street and 62nd Street. When the officer stopped the vehicle and checked its DMV records, the officer discovered that the license plates were registered to a Honda. Investigating this further, officers discovered that the Nissan was actually a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Oakland, CA.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found a loaded handgun as well as several burglary tools (a saw, bolt cutters, “shaved keys”, etc).
The driver (a 48-year-old man, no address) was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of handgun, carrying a concealed/loaded handgun, possession of burglary tools, violation of probation as well as several warrants for his arrest.
The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in keeping our community safe. We appreciate the public’s support and are pleased that we were able to bring justice to those who wish to do harm to our community.
