Berkeley, California (Thursday, July 15, 2021) - This morning, the Berkeley Police Department (BPD) Special Response Team (SRT) assisted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office in serving a high-risk search warrant at a residence on the 1800 block of Fairview Street.
Based on an on-going investigation related to gun violence, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant and requested assistance from the Berkeley Police Department. Because of the increased risk involved with serving a warrant related to gun violence, the Berkeley Police Department deployed its Special Response Team (SRT) to serve the warrant—utilizing the team’s specialized training to provide the best opportunity to keep everyone involved and the public safe.
At the scene, the Special Response Team formed a perimeter around the suspect’s residence and used trained negotiators to speak with the people inside the residence and convince them to come out on their own. As it turns out, the suspect was not at the residence.
