On the evening of February 10th, officers arrested a 33-year-old man after he followed two separate women in the area of Ohlone Park and threatened one of the women with rape.
On February 10th at 5 pm, a woman in her 20’s was walking in the area of Hearst Avenue and MLK Jr Way when a man from within Ohlone Park approached her. When the man started yelling at the woman, she hastened her pace away from the man. When the woman realized the man was closing the distance between them, she started running—with the man continuing to chase her. The woman was able to flag down a passing motorist for help. While getting inside the motorist’s car for safety, the man threatened to rape the woman the next time he saw her.
When Bike Force officers responded to the area to search for the suspect, they found him inside Ohlone Park and detained him.
While investigating the incident, officers learned that there was also an earlier call about a suspicious incident near Ohlone Park—where a man followed a woman and tried to get her to come over to him around 4:10 pm.
Thankfully, both women were able to run to safety in both incidents.
On February 14th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with PC 220(a)(1)—assault with intent to commit a sex crime, PC 646.9(a)—stalking (2 counts), as well as several criminal enhancements.
