Berkeley, California (Thursday, December 09, 2021) - On the night of December 8th, detectives with the assistance of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a 29-year-old Oakland man in connection to a shooting on November 29th in the area of 62nd Street and King Street.
On November 29th at 4:40 pm, officers responded to the 62nd Street/King Street neighborhood on a report of gunfire. After additional investigation into the incident which included reviewing security video from the neighborhood, officers learned that suspect shot at an occupied vehicle with a rifle.
On December 8th, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested the suspect near his residence at 61st Street and Occidental Street. The suspect was in possession of a loaded modified assault rifle and a car that had been stolen in Oakland.
During the search of the suspects residence, detectives found evidence related to the shooting and several pieces of suspected stolen mail, credit cards, and other items related to identity theft.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of PC 246—shooting at an occupied vehicle, PC 245(a)(2)—Assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), PC 246.3(a)—shooting in a negligent manner, PC 29800(a)(1)—being a felon in possession of a firearm, VC 10851(a)—possession of a stolen vehicle, PC 530.5(a)—identity theft, PC 30605(a)—possession of an assault rifle, a criminal enhancement for committing a crime while on pre-trial release, as well as an arrest warrant for an auto burglary that was committed at Ed Roberts campus in September.
