Berkeley, California (Thursday, December 17, 2020) - On December 15th at 10:37 pm, officers responded to an off-street parking lot on the 1000 block of University Avenue on a report of a vehicle parked there with an intoxicated driver. When officers arrived, they discovered the vehicle parked diagonally across two spaces. When officers contacted the occupants, the occupants (a man and woman) were asleep inside along with a Pitbull dog. As officers woke-up the pair, the man (sitting in the driver’s seat) began to reach toward the floorboard—drawing the officer’s attention toward that direction as well. Looking down at the floorboard, the officer spotted a loaded handgun between the man’s legs.
Officers quickly ordered the man to get out of the vehicle (away from the handgun)—where they were able to safely detain him in handcuffs.
When officers searched the man and vehicle, they also discovered a loaded extended high-capacity (30-round drum) magazine, two other loaded high-capacity magazines, over 80 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and cash.
The man (a 24-year-old Suisun man) was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm as well as possessing high-capacity magazines.
