Berkeley, California (Tuesday, March 31, 2020) - On March 25th at 4:13 pm, officers were flagged-down about a theft in progress at Safeway (1444 Shattuck Avenue). The suspect had not yet left the store, so the officers waited near the exit for the suspect to leave without paying. When the suspect stepped outside the store, officers detained the suspect with a full bag of stolen merchandise. When officers searched the suspect, they also found a loaded handgun and extra ammunition.
The suspect (Kaheed Carter, Male, 21 years old, no address) was arrested on suspicion of violating his probation and carrying a loaded/concealed handgun.
On March 26th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Kaheed Carter with 25850(a) PC—Carrying a loaded firearm in Public and 25850(c)(4) PC—Carrying a loaded firearm.
