Berkeley, California (Tuesday, August 4, 2020) - On July 25th at 1 pm, an unknown suspect fired a bullet through the door of an apartment on the 2200 block of Durant Avenue. Fortunately, no one was struck by the gunfire. The residents found the bullet on the floor after it struck their child’s toy.
During the investigation, officers learned that a husband and wife in the same apartment building had previously threatened other residents of the building. After obtaining a search warrant for their residence, detectives located the same handgun used to previously threaten the residents and also the handgun used in the shooting.
On July 29th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the husband (a 62-year-old Berkeley man) with PC 422(a)—making criminal threats, PC 459—Entry to commit theft or a felony, PC 245(b)—Assault with a Deadly Weapon, PC 25400(a)—Carrying a concealed firearm, PC 246.3(a)—Discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and several other criminal enhancements.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the wife (a 60-year-old Berkeley woman) with PC 422(a)—making criminal threats, PC 459—Entry to commit theft or a felony and several other criminal enhancements.
