If you qualify, there are several convenient options
Berkeley, California (Friday, October 01, 2021) - Clinics across the region now offer the full set of options for all three approved vaccines including "booster" doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for specific groups defined by age, underlying medical conditions and risk.
Federal and state guidelines recommend a Pfizer booster dose for adults who received their second Pfizer dose at least six months ago and are in specific categories:
- 65-year-olds and older
- Residents of long-term care facilities
- 50-years-olds and older who have underlying medical conditions or are at increased risk of social inequities, including communities of color and others at risk of inequities.
Federal and state guidelines also recommend this Pfizer booster as an option to consider for two more specific groups if they received their second Pfizer dose at least six months earlier:
- 18 to 49-year-olds with underlying medical conditions
- 18 to 64-year-olds at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting
Easily available public health tools keep everyone safe
Vaccines remain the most powerful tool in the fight against COVID-19, including the Delta variant, as they substantially drive down infections and even more dramatically reduce severe illness, hospitalizations and death.
There has yet to be a single vaccinated person in Berkeley who has died of COVID-19. State data shows that, compared to the vaccinated, unvaccinated people are 8.1 times more likely to get infected and 17.5 times more likely to die.
Face coverings indoors also provide critical protection since a primary way the COVID-19 virus spreads is through the breathing in of air from exhaled droplets or particles that contain the virus.
Anyone infected with COVID-19 can spread it - even if they do NOT have symptoms.
Pfizer booster appointments now widely available
Vaccine appointments remain widely available across the region for first, second and Pfizer booster doses.
In addition to your health care provider, you can also visit myturn.ca.gov, which includes pharmacies at places in or near Berkeley, such as Safeway, Walgreens, CVS and elsewhere.
City clinics offer first, second, boosters and additional doses
City of Berkeley vaccination clinics that offer the Pfizer vaccine will also offer the Pfizer booster dose for the specified groups. Those can be found at cityofberkeley.info/covax, along with important clinic details, and include these clinics in the weeks ahead:
