About the park’s namesake
Terrence “T-Mack” McCrary Jr. was a Counselor-in-Training at the Berkeley Skate Park who mentored younger skaters and shared his love for skateboarding and art. People knew him for his warmth, creativity, and generous spirit. On August 14, 2016, while attending a party in Uptown Oakland, T-Mack was killed by stray gunfire. He was 22 years old.
His impact on the community continues. Each year, his family and the City’s Recreation Division host the T-Mack Skate Jam. This is an all-ages event with music, food, and skating that celebrates T-Mack’s life and legacy while honoring the community’s resilience in the face of gun violence.
