The Berkeley Rose Garden offers a combination of natural beauty and outdoor recreation, making it a destination for flower enthusiasts, walkers, and those looking for a peaceful retreat.
This terraced garden features 1,500 rose bushes across multiple levels, with a redwood pergola, with repurposed wood, running along the top, providing shaded seating with views of the vibrant blooms. As you walk through the pathways, labeled roses display a variety of colors and scents, while Codornices Creek flows through the lower section, feeding an ornamental pool.
The garden connects to nearby hiking trails and tennis courts, offering additional opportunities for outdoor activity. Benches throughout the space provide quiet spots to sit and take in the changing seasonal displays. Mid-May through September is the best time to experience the roses in full bloom.
Near the north stairs by the restroom, an ADA-accessible tunnel connects the Rose Garden to Codornices Park and its nearby picnic area and restrooms, linking quiet terraces to active play spaces.
Entry is free, with limited street parking available. While the garden’s terraced paths can be steep, the upper overlook is accessible by wheelchair. Restrooms are located just outside the garden.
