Age-Friendly Berkeley Action Plan

Adoption Date:

The Age-Friendly Berkeley Action Plan is a three-year action plan to improve the experience of older adults in our community, with four focus areas: housing and economic security, transportation and mobility, health and wellness, and social participation and civic engagement.

The population of older adults in Berkeley will double by 2030, resulting in 1 in 5 adults being over 65 years of age. The Age Friendly Berkeley initiative helps prepare Berkeley for its rapidly growing aging population by gathering input from the community and pulling together public and private leaders, resources, and strategies to address the issues raised.

The Age Friendly Berkeley Action Plan identifies four focus areas: housing and economic security, transportation and mobility, health and wellness, and social participation and civic engagement. These areas were identified after soliciting community input via a survey and needs assessment, as well as thru key informant interviews. The plan presents a collaborative set of recommendations focused on creating a city that is inclusive, equitable, and accessible for people of all ages.
