PROJECT LOCATION
Across the City of Berkeley
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The City of Berkeley will soon be adding 11 new Bay Wheels bike share docking stations and is gathering community feedback to determine where they should be located.
These 11 new stations would add to Berkeley’s existing 37 docking stations, making it easier to bike without the worries of maintenance and theft that come with ownership.
With Bay Wheels stations distributed across the City, bike share can also help you and others bridge a barrier to mass transit known as “the last mile” – the distance from a BART station or AC Transit stop to someone’s home.
The City of Berkeley is collaborating with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to identify locations for new bike share stations as part of an expansion of the regional bike share network.
In May 2025, the City conducted community engagement activities to gather public input on proposed station locations. A presentation summarizing the bike share expansion program, shared during the community event, is available below under Past Events.
Based on community feedback, City staff have finalized the locations for 11 new bike share stations, listed below and shown in the interactive map:
- Berkeley Library – North Branch
- Selected in lieu of Solano / The Alameda location, which was removed due to safety concerns and limited connectivity to the surrounding bike share network.
- Tom Bates Sports Complex
- 10th / Gilman
- Curtis / Gilman
- James Kenney Park
- Berkeley Marina
- Strawberry Creek Park
- Hearst / Gayley
- Clark Kerr
- Russell / Grant
- California / Dwight
MTC plans to install and launch all 11 new stations in Berkeley by Summer 2026. Installation of the initial 10 stations is expected to begin in Spring 2026, with the final station to be completed in the summer.
