PROJECT LOCATION
Intersection of Cedar Street at Grant Street
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Part of the 2026 Bike Plan, Tier 1 priority Grant Street Corridor Improvements, this project will implement a new concrete median refuge island at the Cedar Street/Grant Street Intersection.
Cedar Street is a part of is part of Berkeley’s Vision Zero High-Injury Streets, the small percentage of City streets where a disproportionate number of people are killed or severely injured. Since 2016, there have been five reported collisions at the intersection of Cedar Street at Grant Street, including one serious injury collision involving a bicyclist.
A new concrete median refuge island will improve pedestrian and bicycle crossing safety on a High Injury Street (Cedar Street). This project will also support a future Grant Street Bicycle Boulevard, another 2026 Bike Plan Tier 1 priority. The Cedar Street-Grant Street Median Crossing project will be implemented in conjunction with the planned pavement rehabilitation of Cedar Street (from Sacramento Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Way).
