WHAT'S HAPPENING
The City of Berkeley Public Works Department will perform drainage improvements at various locations throughout the city. The project scope includes the construction and rehabilitation of storm drain pipelines; replacement of existing and installation of new drainage structures; installation of new cross drains; and construction of concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk, driveway, valley gutter, and curb ramps.
This project is designed to address urgent storm drain infrastructure repairs. The proposed improvements will mitigate uncontrolled ground water and storm water runoff, extend the service life of infrastructure and reduce the risk of failure.
During construction, traffic control measures may cause delays near work sites, and street closures may be necessary but will not exceed 12 hours at a time. “No Parking" signs will be posted along affected streets at least 3‐days in advance and will be enforced by the Police Department. Please refer to the posted signs for exact hours and locations, as they will vary based on the scheduled work. All other usual parking restrictions, including no parking for street cleaning, will remain in effect. Access to private driveways may be prohibited during some operations. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
Timeline
Construction is tentatively expected to begin in January 2026 and take approximately 4-6 months to complete depending on weather or unforeseen conditions.
