PROJECT LOCATION
First 63 pay stations have been installed in the Southside, North Shattuck, Euclid/Hearst, and Solano areas.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The City is replacing existing pay-and-display pay stations with new pay-by-plate pay stations. The existing pay-and-display machines require you to display a ticket printed by the kiosk on your dashboard (or use ParkMobile for contactless payment), and the pay-by-plate machines require that you enter your license plate number at the machine (or use ParkMobile for contactless payment). The new pay stations do not require you to display anything in or on your vehicle (your license plate is your permit).
New pay-by-plate pay stations have been installed in the Southside, North Berkeley, Solano, and Euclid/Hearst areas first before they are installed elsewhere in the City. Remember, you can use the ParkMobile app and avoid using meters or pay stations altogether!
Benefits of Pay-by-Plate Pay Stations
Replacing pay-and-display with pay-by-plate pay stations comes with many benefits. Pay-by-plate gives you the option to pay at any pay station on the block as you head to your destination. If you pay for parking but leave before your paid time expires, you may return to the same block and park without having to pay again, as long as you are within the original paid time. It also streamlines enforcement, giving parking control officers more time to focus on safety issues like double-parking and neighborhood concerns related to residential permit parking enforcement.
