Join us for the Meet Six Neighbors Challenge to build stronger connections with your neighbors so you are ready to support each other if a disaster happens.
In an emergency, first responders may not be able to get to you immediately. Those who live nearby are best positioned to help—so get to know them through this challenge!
The challenge is simple: meet six neighbors before the end of the summer and participate in National Night Out, the event that helps gather neighbors and law enforcement to help build safer, more connected communities.
Host a neighborhood gathering at your home, a potluck, cookout, casual meet-and-greet, or a block party on August 4, 2026, during the annual National Night Out.
You don't have to build a network alone. Get ideas, tools, and inspiration to build a stronger neighborhood network at this Zoom event.

You will have another chance to start this challenge at our in-person event on July 15, 2026. If you cannot make these dates and want to participate in the challenge, sign up or email the Office of Emergency Services: oes@berkeleyca.gov, and we will send you tips and resources throughout the summer.
Everyone is welcome, especially people who want to build stronger connections with their neighbors or who have never participated in a block party.
