Registration for the one-day, June 15 household hazardous waste event is full. County residents can drop off household hazardous waste at stopwaste.org’s Oakland facility. Appointments are not necessary.
Berkeley residents can make their home safer by getting rid of paint, fuels, electronics, and other household hazardous waste by dropping it off at a free, one-day event on Sunday, June 15 in Albany.

This event, coordinated by StopWaste.org, is open only to Alameda County residents. Businesses can dispose of hazardous materials through other services.
When dropping off your household hazardous waste, pack the materials in the trunk, stay in your vehicle, and have your driver's license ready. Professional crews will unload and handle all the toxic materials, as required by state law.
What's ok to bring:
Households may bring the following items to the drop-off event:
- Pest and garden products
- Batteries
- Light bulbs
- Paints and paint -related products
- Electronics and small appliances
- Propane tanks
- Old medications and prescriptions (Including controlled substances)
- Oil, gasoline, auto fluids
- Cleaners
- Fire extinguishers and other miscellaneous waste
- Sharps containers
do not bring:
- Treated wood waste including railroad ties
- Asbestos
- Compressed gas cylinders other than propane
- Large appliances (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, etc.)
- Construction and demolition waste
- Smoke detectors
- Explosives (such as ammunition, fireworks, marine flares, gunpowder)
- Radioactives
