Berkeleyans in the North Berkeley hills can use PG&E alerts, resource center, and website to get information. City libraries and senior centers with air conditioning are open for those wanting to cool down.
North Berkeley Hills residents whose power has been shut off by PG&E for an expected two days can receive direct alerts from PG&E, look up their outage status, and visit a PG&E resource center to charge devices or use Wi-Fi.
As temperatures are expected to be in the 80s during the agency’s Public Safety Power Shutoff – which is expected to last until Friday, October 16 at 4 p.m. – Berkeleyans wanting to escape the heat can visit City sites with air conditioning to cool down.
PG&E resources for the shutoff
PG&E has the following resources for the public:
- Visit the PG&E Power Outage website to see status. The outage map is not exact, so PG&E recommends entering specific addresses to confirm status.
- PG&E says they have notified all affected customers. If you did not get notified, PG&E advises people to update their contact information by logging into your PG&E account or by calling 1-866-743-6589
- PG&E has established an outdoor Community Resource Center in Berkeley with device charging and Wi-Fi.
- 1 Tanglewood Road, Berkeley, CA 94705
- October 15 & 16: 8:00 am–10:00 pm
- Resources: ADA-accessible restroom and washing station; Blankets, snacks and water; Device charging and small medical device charging; Portable batteries; Seating; Wi-Fi
Plan now where to go if your home gets too hot, or if you need an indoor location to charge a device.

Use 911 for Fires, medical assistance – not battery charging
The Fire Department is unable to charge/power your medical device.
See the PG&E Community Resource Center and City locations above to charge your devices. Do not call 911 because you do not have electricity for your medical device.
If you need emergency transport to a hospital for medical care, call 911.
Weather conditions
The National Weather Service does not currently anticipate humidity and wind conditions that warrant a Red Flag Warning, a signal of greater fire risk.
As of Thursday morning, the weather service forecast is for warm, dry weather Thursday and Friday, with sustained northeast winds up to at 5–10 mph and gusts up to 15 mph. Afternoon humidity could fall as low as 15%.
The City will continue to monitor the situation and will activate fire weather protocols if warranted by updated weather service forecasts or conditions.
Note: this message was updated on Oct. 15, 2026 at 2:40 p.m. to indicate PG&E's updated end time to the Public Safety Power Shutoff.
