Escape to the Sierra Nevada this summer with the City of Berkeley: we have sleepaway camps for youth, families, adults, and seniors.
You can swim in a lake, hike in the forest, enjoy meals cooked for you, or let your children explore the wonders of the high sierras with counselors. The cost is low. The reward high.
When you join us at either Echo Lake (near South Lake Tahoe) or Tuolumne camp (near Yosemite), you can participate in traditions shared by generations of Berkeleyans, or create new ones of your own with family and friends.
Signups have started, but there's room for more. Scholarships can cover up to the full cost. Use our recreation portal to sign up. See below for detailed instructions.
Family Camp sessions, June to August
At either Echo Lake or Tuolumne Camp, families can enjoy the wilderness, great food, and all-day programming for kids. Choose from week long, weekday, and weekend camp visits.
Families enjoy campfires and s'mores, take part in theme days, play games, practice archery, swim, and learn crafts. At Echo, there's also a pool, a lake, and access to the Pacific Crest Trail. At Tuolumne, you can fish, hike, or even take a short trip to Yosemite National Park.
Pricing varies by camp, date, session, and size of your group. For example, a Friday to Sunday stay at Echo Lake Family Camp for one adult and two children cost $806. Increasing days or people would add cost.
Youth Camp
Our Youth Camp at Echo Lake offers a week-long opportunity for kids ages 7 to 14 to experience the natural world, make new friends, have fun, and grow confidence.
These 5-day or 6-day sessions include activities such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, archery, arts & crafts, campfires, talent shows, group games, and more. Our 6-day program includes Echolympics, a day full of games that's a camper favorite.
- Five-day sessions: June 27-July 1 and July 5-9
- Six-day sessions: July 11-16, 18-23, 25-30; August 1-6, 8-13, 15-20
