Berkeley Summer Camps

Summer camps provide a range of programs for kids and teens, from athletics to creative arts and outdoor exploration.

Berkeley summer camps provide programs for youth ages 3 to 18, with options in sports, arts, science, aquatics, skateboarding, and more. Learn more about our summer camps through the Summer Camp Preview and register through our Recreation Registration Portal.

Aquatics Camps

Berkeley offers summer aquatics camps for ages 7–14, including swim sports for intermediate swimmers and lifeguard skills training for older youth. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards and float or tread for one minute. Extended care for mornings and evenings is not available for aquatics camps.

Day Camps

Berkeley’s day camps offer programs for ages 3 to 14, with activities in sports, arts, dance, STEM, nature exploration, skateboarding, early childhood readiness, and teen enrichment. Teens can build leadership skills and gain hands-on experience by supporting staff and younger campers as Counselors-in-Training. Extended care is available for most camps from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm for an additional cost.

  • All-Star Sports Camp. Ages 8–14. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:00 pm. $250/week.
    Basketball, soccer, baseball, and volleyball with a focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.
  • Berkeley Day Camp. Ages 5–13. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:30 pm. $310/week.
    Weekly themed sessions with shoreline exploration, crafts, hiking, and play at Adventure Playground.
  • Berkeley Day Camp Counselor-in-Training. Grades 9–10. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:30 pm. $251/week.
    Gain leadership experience while supporting younger campers during themed weeks around Berkeley.
  • Frances Albrier Arts Fun Camp. Ages 5–12. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:00 pm. $165/week.
    Campers explore dance, theater, public speaking, culinary projects, and nature with weekly pool visits.
  • James Kenney Discovery Fun Camp. Ages 5-12. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:00 pm. $165/week.
    Various activities throughout the week including nature and artistic exploration, outdoor fun, swimming days, and field trips. 
  • Live Oak Adventurers Fun Camp. Ages 5-12. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:00 pm. $165/week.
    Various activities throughout the week including nature and artistic exploration, outdoor fun, swimming days, and field trips. 
  • Shorebird Nature STEM Camp. Ages 5–12. Weekdays. 9:00 am–3:30 pm. $310/week.
    Hands-on science and ecology activities, including canoeing, birdwatching, and fort building. 
    AM Extended Care starts at 7:30 am.
  • Skate Camp. Ages 7–14. Weekdays. Half-day 9:00 am–12:00 pm. $195/week.
    Build skills and learn new tricks with guidance from experienced skate instructors.
    Requirements: Bring skateboard, helmet, skate shoes (pads recommended). AM/PM care is not offered.
  • Skate Camp Counselor-in-Training. Ages 15–18. Weekdays. Half-day 9:00 am–12:00 pm. $100.
    Teens can mentor youth while learning how to be a camp counselor.
    Requirements: Bring skateboard, helmet, skate shoes (pads recommended). AM/PM care is not offered.
  • Summer Achievers. Incoming grades 6th–8th. Weekdays. 9:00 am–4:00 pm. $0.
    Teens enjoy art, games, enrichment, and field trips in this program for Berkeley students. 
    Requirements: Must live in Berkeley or attend Berkeley schools. Registration form required. AM/PM care is not offered.

Overnight Camps

Berkeley overnight camps offer activities in nature, connection with community, and shared meals in the Sierra Nevada. Campers can hike, swim, and relax at Echo Lake near South Lake Tahoe or Tuolumne Camp near Yosemite. Open to youth, families, adults, and seniors. Scholarships available.

Playground Programs

Kids ages 5-12 can enjoy two-week sessions at Grove Park and Strawberry Creek, where they’ll play sports, create art, swim, and go on mini field trips. These programs use basketball courts, playgrounds, and nearby parks to provide a fun, educational, and engaging experience.

Specialty Camps

We partner with outside vendors to offer unique, specialized camps at City locations, bringing a wider variety of programs that go beyond what City staff provide. These camps are led by experts in their fields and may have different pricing than City-run programs. Some happen year-round.

Therapeutic Recreation Discovery Camp

This inclusive camp at James Kenney supports youth with special needs, ages 5-12, through fun activities that build social and physical skills. Scholarships available.
