Therapeutic Recreation
The City of Berkeley’s Therapeutic Recreation Program provides support for community members of all abilities to actively participate in quality recreation programs.
Sign up for the Therapeutic Recreation Program to support youth with special needs through fun, skill-building activities at James Kenney Community Center. Open to ages 5-12 in summer and grades K - 5th grade during the school year. Youth have the opportunity to build social, physical, and behavioral skills in groups with their same-aged peers while participating in fun and exciting daily activities. Scholarships are available.

Afterschool Program
Youth with special needs can build confidence and connection in the Therapeutic Recreation Afterschool Program. They can get help with homework, explore art, and stay active with games and sports in a structured, supportive setting.
- Grades: Kindergarten to 5th grade
- Location: James Kenney Community Center
- Cost: $200 for a 4-week session
- Hours: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Summer Fun Camp
The Therapeutic Recreation Summer Fun Camp offers an engaging summer camp experience for youth with special needs. Youth participate in activities ranging from sports and games to arts & crafts, nature exploration, and field trips.
- Ages: 5 to 12 years old
- Location: James Kenney Community Center
- Cost: $450 for a 3-week session
- Hours: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP)
Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to improve the health, independence and social integration of people with physical disabilities through sports, fitness and recreation programs. BORP believes that sports and recreation provide a path to greater achievement to which all people should have access.
