Therapeutic Recreation
The City of Berkeley’s Therapeutic Recreation Program provides support for community members of all abilities to actively participate in quality recreation programs.
The Therapeutic Recreation Program provides a safe and fun environment for participants with various disabilities and support needs in a group setting. While there will be opportunities for learning, the program is based in recreation and play and does not occur in a licensed education-based setting.
Therapeutic Recreation maintains a 3:1 participant-to-staff ratio. This program does not offer 1:1 assistance. Every effort will be made to support participants.
Staff prioritizes the safety and experience of all participants. Staff is committed to communicating any concerns with care providers and cultivating a collaborative relationship with participants’ care teams to ensure their success.
The Therapeutic Recreation Program is open to ages 5-12 in summer and grades TK – 5 during the school year. Scholarships are available.
To participate in the Therapeutic Recreation Program, an intake is required. To learn more or schedule an intake, contact Assistant Recreation Coordinator Desire Finnie at dfinnie@berkeleyca.gov or call (510) 981-6656.
