WHAT'S HAPPENING
The City of Berkeley Public Works Department will be performing drainage improvements along the entire stretch of Wildcat Canyon Road within city limits. The project scope includes replacing and rehabilitating storm culverts and drainage inlet structures, installing energy dissipation at culvert outfalls, erosion mitigation, minor concrete, and other related work.
Wildcat Canyon Road has a long history of landslides and erosion, leading to numerous emergency repairs over the years. This project is designed to improve the roadway’s resilience to such hazards, prevent sinkhole formation caused by failing culverts, and enhance safety for both the public and emergency service vehicles.
Timeline
Construction is tentatively expected to begin April 2026 and take approximately 3-4 months to complete depending on weather or unforeseen conditions. Please note that construction activities near your property may not occur for the full duration of this period. Standard work hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Possible Inconveniences
Traffic control may cause delays near work sites. Temporary lane or street closures will be implemented during working hours as needed to facilitate and expedite completion of the improvements. Residents will be notified at least 3-days in advance of any planned closures. “No Parking" signs will be posted along the street at least 3-days in advance and will be enforced by the Police Department. Please see the posted signs for exact hours and locations as they will vary according to scheduled work. All other usual parking restrictions, including no parking for street cleaning, will continue to be in effect. When road closures are in effect, emergency vehicle and local traffic access will be maintained and waste collection and mail deliveries will be coordinated. For traffic updates and construction impacts, see the Traffic Advisories webpage.
