Electric Mobility

Discover resources to help you start using electric cars, bicycles, scooters, and adaptive vehicles.

Electric-powered cars and bikes, and shared services such as scooters and adaptive vehicles, provide convenient and environmentally-friendly ways to get around. Find resources on this page to help you electrify your transportation, and reduce your emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

Berkeley is making it easier to transition to electric vehicles by:

  • Streamlining the permit process for installing electric vehicle charging
  • Requiring installation of electric vehicle charging in new buildings

Learn more about the City of Berkeley’s vision for electric mobility in the Electric Mobility Roadmap and the City's efforts to increase access to electric bikes for income-qualified residents through the Berkeley Electric Bike Equity Project (BEEP).

City-owned Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

The City owns and operates public electric vehicle charging stations at the following locations:

  • Center Street Parking Garage, 2025 Center St
  • Oxford Garage, 2165 Kittredge St
  • Telegraph-Channing Garage, 2450 Durant Ave
  • Berkeley Marina, K-Dock, 201 University Ave
  • West Branch Library, 1125 University Ave

Fees for charging at these stations vary depending on the time of day and the length of the charge.

You will pay a base rate of $1.50, plus $0.30 to $0.40 per kWh (pricing is higher during peak hours from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm). If you charge your vehicle for over 4 hours and 15 minutes, you will pay a $1 per minute overstay fee, up to 30 minutes (effective from 5:00 am – 10:00 pm daily).

Additional parking fees may apply.
