Bike Parking
Berkeley residents, businesses, and property owners can submit a request for installation of a new bicycle rack or submit an application for an on-street bicycle corral.
You can park your bike safely at many convenient locations throughout the city. View our bicycle parking map to find existing bicycle rack locations. In addition to on-street bike parking, BART offers indoor bike stations at the Downtown Berkeley and Ashby stations. You can also park your bike in a bike locker at several locations in Berkeley.
Notice
This program is currently not funded. Please expect delays in response to requests for new bike racks or on-street bike corrals.
As the City converts parking meters to pay stations, old parking meter poles are being repurposed as additional bike racks. Kindly note that this is an ongoing process.
Request a new bike rack
If you live, work, or own a business or property in Berkeley, you can request a new bicycle rack. Follow the steps below to request a rack.
- First check the bicycle parking map to see if your location has already been requested and is pending or has been rejected.
- If your location has no markers on the map, email bikeparking@berkeleyca.gov or (510) 981-7053.
City of Berkeley staff will review your request and decide whether it is feasible to install a rack at the requested location. If it is feasible, your request will be added to the installation list and installed as resources allow.
Request an on-street bike corral
The City installs on-street bike corrals in locations where there is high demand for bike parking and not enough space on the sidewalk. Installation requires an identified Maintenance Partner for the corral — typically the fronting merchant or property owner — who agrees to keep the corral clean and in good condition.
You can apply for a bike corral in front of your business or property by submitting an application to bikeparking@berkeleyca.gov or (510) 981-7053.
