Join us for the unveiling of new public artwork at the Willard Clubhouse — and help us celebrate the building’s achievement of LEED Gold certification!
The City of Berkeley is proud to unveil a newly commissioned artwork at the Willard Clubhouse. Enchanted Forest, by artist Julie W. Chang, draws inspiration from Berkeley’s flora and fauna and the history of Willard Park as a beloved gathering space. With the intent of highlighting diverse voices and perspectives, symbols mingle and collide into abstraction, inviting multiple interpretations and opportunities for delight and discovery for children and viewers of all ages. The mosaic features imagery from our environment such as Dawn Redwoods, (Old Berkeley) Fuchsia, Barn Owls, California King Snakes woven with textile elements from diverse cultures and histories. Located on the interior lobby wall, this nearly 10’ x 19’ mosaic serves as a talisman, a celebration of community in harmony with our natural environment, a reminder that we are more powerful together than apart.
The unveiling is paired with an exciting milestone for the building that houses it, making this a celebration of both art and environmental stewardship. As the City of Berkeley’s first all-electric municipal building, the Willard Clubhouse exceeded its design goal of LEED Silver and achieved LEED Gold certification for its energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and commitment to occupant health and comfort. With on-site solar power and battery storage, the building supports the City’s climate action goals while serving as a welcoming community space. Join us to celebrate this milestone in sustainable public infrastructure and tour the building.
