We want Berkeley to be ready for natural disasters. The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) has information about the disasters we may experience, what we’re doing to prevent their impacts, and how you might help.

The LHMP is an appendix to the Disaster Preparedness and Safety Element of the City of Berkeley General Plan. To learn more about the hazards that can occur in Berkeley, view our interactive storymap or watch our videos.

The Berkeley City Council adopted the 2024 LHMP on March 18, 2025.
