Reviews and schedules agenda items, sets the agenda for City Council meetings, refers items to policy committees, and makes recommendations on rules governing the Council legislative process.
Charged with actively promoting the total integration and participation of persons with disabilities into all areas of economic, political, and community life. Membership shall be made up primarily of persons who have disabilities.
Reviews legislation relating to Land Use, preservation, development standards, housing and affordable housing, disability/universal access, business and economic growth, civic arts and culture, and business retention, attraction, and development.
Reviews legislation relating to seniors and youth, mental health, public health, homelessness, health equity and outcomes, recreation, Berkeley’s 2020 Vision, events, neighborhood services, animal control/care, and code enforcement/livability.
Establishes policy in the area of labor by preparing reports, developing information and referral services, observing and reviewing labor disputes, and promoting equal rights. Desirable criteria for appointment: Membership in labor organizations, or to reflect affirmative action guidelines.
Advises the Council and the School Board on issues of peace and social justice. Creates citizen awareness and develops educational programs. Total membership is fifteen. Each Councilmember and School Director makes one appointment.
Recommends to Council how and to what extent the City should establish and/or fund programs to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages in Berkeley and to address the effects of such consumption.
