Low-income households or individuals must apply by March 20 to potentially qualify for two separate waitlists for two buildings, each with different age restrictions.
If you are at least 18 years old (or a legally emancipated minor), you can apply for the waitlist for the family-friendly Grinnell community in southwest Berkeley. Annual income limits vary by household size. For example, a household of 2-5 people earning a minimum of $45,000 and up to $95,880 would pay $1,875 for a two-bedroom unit.
If you are at least 62 years old, you can also apply for the waitlist for studio apartments in the senior-specific Strawberry Creek Lodge in central Berkeley. Units are reserved at different income levels. At the lowest tier, for example, a 2-person household earning a minimum of $18,648 and a maximum of $35,520 would pay $777 for a studio.

The City of Berkeley provided critical funding for both properties, whose waitlist and buildings are managed by nonprofit affordable housing developer Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA). Located on San Pablo Ave near Dwight Way, The Grinnell is near West Berkeley parks, schools, grocery stores, and AC Transit lines 72 and 36.

Amenities include community, art, and computer rooms, a community library, a laundry facility, and an outdoor patio and garden. Accessible bathrooms, on-site property management, and supportive services enable residents to live independently.
