Individuals or larger households comprised entirely of people at least 62 years old can apply for a waitlist for the 80-unit Helios Corner, an affordable housing community in Central Berkeley for low-income seniors, including those with special needs.
Eligibility is based on income level and household size and varies by unit. For example, a single individual with an annual income of $30,024 - $51,800 qualifies for a studio unit. Income thresholds are higher for larger households and one- or two-bedroom units.

The City of Berkeley provided critical funding for Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) to build Helios Corner. SAHA, a nonprofit affordable housing developer, manages this Central Berkeley property and its waitlist.

All eligible applicants will be added to the waitlist by random lottery. Eligible applicants at the top of the list will fill two 1-bedroom units that are immediately available. Other applicants may be contacted when future openings become available.
Helios Corner: Housing to support seniors
Helios Corner is an 80-unit affordable housing community for low-income seniors, including those with special needs. Onsite property management and supportive services enable residents to live independently while aging.
Centrally located in Berkeley at the corner of University Avenue and Sacramento Street, residents enjoy convenient access to grocery stores, parks, service providers, and public transit. The building is within walking distance of North Berkeley BART station and major AC Transit bus lines.
Helios Corner’s amenities include a laundry room, computer room, community room, library, courtyard, and garden area. Limited off-street parking is subject to a waitlist.
The City of Berkeley Housing Trust Fund program provided funding to build this property, creating affordable housing opportunities for older adults in the Berkeley community.
This waitlist provides an opportunity for permanently affordable housing for seniors 62 and older.
