Seasonal Recreation Jobs

Apply for a seasonal recreation job with the City of Berkeley.

Come and join an amazing team of recreation staff and work outdoors while providing fun, active, creative programs for youth. We are looking for applicants of diverse experiences to facilitate recreation programs for children and youth. 

The Recreation Division has a variety of summer jobs available that include employment at Echo Lake and Tuolumne Overnight Camps, Day Camps, Aquatics, Community Centers, Parks, Adventure Playground, and the Skate Park.

Requirements include:

  • Must be 16 years or older (Aquatics: 15 years or older)
  • Able to work 20-40 hours per week, starting in early June
  • TB test and Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Signed Social Security Card

Camp Staff Member (16+, 18+ for Counselors)
$89.39 - $107.27 per day 

Camp Staff Leader (17+)
$112.63 - $128.72 per day 

Camp Medical Staff Member (18+)

Camp Staff Supervisor (18+) 
$139.98 - $173.77 per day 

Camp Staff Mechanic (18+) 
$39.24 - $46.76 per hour 

Work at the beautiful Echo Lake Camp, located near Lake Tahoe, or Berkeley Tuolumne Camp, located near Yosemite. There are a variety of resident camp staff roles available, including youth camp counselor, facility maintenance, food service, recreation staff, office administration, lifeguards, medical staff, and childcare. Depending on your role, responsibilities, and your commitment schedule, you may be able to work during part or all of the summer. All camp staff are required to attend one week of staff training and team building at their assigned camp. 

All resident camp staff will receive room and board, freshly cooked meals, and laundry facilities while working at camp.

Help facilitate recreation programs in Berkeley, including Day Camps, Sports Camps, Skate Camp, Playground Programs, Specialty Camps, Pre-K Programs, Adventure Playground, Teens Programs, Special Events, and Park Monitor Programs.

Senior Aquatics Specialist (Senior Lifeguard, 16+)

The Aquatics Unit operates two year-round pools (King Pool and West Campus Pool). Aquatics Staff facilitate various recreation programs, including Lap Swim, Rec Swim, Swim Team, Aqua Aerobics classes, Camps, and more. While working at the pools, staff master lifesaving skills, gain leadership experience, and enjoy flexible schedules with various working hours.
