Come and join an amazing team of recreation staff and work outdoors while providing fun, active, creative programs for youth. We are looking for applicants from a range of social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds to help facilitate recreation programs for children and youth.
The Recreation Division has a variety of summer jobs available that include employment at Echo Lake and Tuolumne overnight camps, day camps, pools, recreation centers, parks, Adventure Playground, and the Skate Park.
Requirements include:
- Must be 16 years or older
- Able to work 20-40 hours per week, starting in early June
- TB test and Live Scan fingerprint clearance
- Signed Social Security Card
Most positions having a starting pay of above $20 an hour.

overnight camps
Echo Lake Youth Camp
Work at the beautiful Echo Lake Camp, located near Lake Tahoe. You can apply for a variety of resident camp staff positions, including youth camp counselor, facility maintenance, food service, recreation staff, office administration, lifeguards, medical staff, and child care. Depending on your role, responsibilities, and your commitment schedule, you may be able to work during part or all of the summer. This includes one week of staff training and team building at the camp where you will be working.

Tuolumne Family Camp
Work at the beautiful Tuolumne Camp, located near Yosemite. You can apply for a variety of resident camp staff positions, including youth camp counselor, facility maintenance, food service, recreation staff, office administration, lifeguards, medical staff, and child care. Recreation Activity Leader
$22.62 per hour (starting pay)
Playground Leader Trainee
$20.90 per hour
Help facilitate recreation programs in Berkeley, including day camps, sports camps, skate camp, traditional playground programs, specialty camps, pre-K programs, Adventure Playground, Teens Programs, special events, and park monitor programs. Programs will be offered at the following locations:
- James Kenny Recreation Center
- Frances Albrier (San Pablo Park) Recreation Center
- Live Oak Recreation Center
- Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Services Center
- Adventure Playground
- Shorebird Nature Center
- Skate Park
- Willard, Grove, Strawberry Creek, and Codornices Parks

Aquatics
Starting pay: Above $20 per hour
Come work in a fun, family friendly environment at the West Campus and King Pools. Positions include Aquatic Specialist 1, Aquatic Specialist 2, and Senior Aquatic Specialist. You will facilitate programs including swim lessons, special events, lap swim, senior exercise, public and family swim, and much more. Lifeguard training available.

Waterfront
The Waterfront is hiring for two part-time positions:
Waterfront Monitors
Water Monitors walk, drive, and bike through the waterfront and act as ambassadors to the public, identify issues needing City attention, and provide a friendly face to interact with our customers. Hours for this part-time role are flexible, with shifts available 7 days a week between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm.
Recreation Activity Leader
The Waterfront is also looking for individuals to join our Marina Office Team. Individuals in this position will primarily assist with Customer service for the marina’s visiting boaters and regular customers, and may assist with phones, email, outreach, payment processing, and special projects. The ideal candidate enjoys working on a team and helping others.
