South Berkeley Bikeway and Bus Stop Improvements

The South Berkeley Bikeway and Bus Stop Improvements Project, which is comprised of the Shattuck-MLK Bus Stops (SMBS) Project and the Woolsey-Fulton Bicycle Boulevard (WFBB) Project, will fill a gap in the existing Citywide bike network and upgrade bus facilities to promote and encourage people of all ages and abilities to walk, bicycle, and use transit. Project improvements include the following:

• Class III bikeway with Bicycle Boulevard pavement markings and signage along the following streets:
  • Woolsey St between Adeline St to Wheeler St
  • Wheeler St between Woolsey St to Prince St
  • Prince St between Wheeler St to Fulton St
  • Fulton St between Prince St to Dwight Way
• Pedestrian crossing improvements in the form of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) or Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at the following key intersections:
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Prince St (PHB)
  • Adeline St and Woolsey St (RRFB)
  • Shattuck Ave and Woolsey St (RRFB)
  • Shattuck Ave and Russell St (PHB)
  • Adeline St and Russell St (RRFB)
• Sidewalk bulb outs at the following intersections:
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Prince St
  • Adeline St and Woolsey St
  • Shattuck Ave and Woolsey St
  • Shattuck Ave and Russell St
• Bus stop upgrades such as installing shelters, seating, and bus bulb outs
• Bus stop relocation to the far side of the intersection for improved safety and operations at the following locations:
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Prince St
  • Shattuck Ave and Woolsey St
  • Shattuck Ave and Ashby Ave
• Median refuge upgrades at:
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Prince St
  • Adeline St and Woolsey St
• Speed tables on Fulton St near Oregon St
• Traffic circle at the Prince St and Wheeler St intersection.
