Healthcare providers in Berkeley are expected to collaborate with Berkeley Public Health and the City of Berkeley Communicable Disease Prevention Program on reporting communicable diseases and on preparing for and responding to emergencies.
Physicians and health care providers are legally required by Title 17 of the California Code of Regulations to report suspected, lab-confirmed, and clinical diagnosis of specific diseases and conditions within the specific time frames to the client’s local health jurisdiction.
Communicable disease reporting
Physicians who need to report a suspected public health emergency should contact Communicable Disease Prevention & Control Program immediately at (510) 981-5292. For after hours, call Berkeley Police Dispatch at (510) 981-5911 and ask to speak to the Health Officer on call.

The California Department of Public Health Immunization Branch collects and publishes information on vaccine-preventable disease in California, which can help healthcare providers in their immunization program planning.
Clinics and other healthcare providers, including skilled nursing facilities, should consult the Clinic Job Aids & Resources for vaccine administration information and to stay compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations.

The Berkeley Healthcare Preparedness Coalition is a voluntary and informal, multi-agency workgroup created to coordinate healthcare preparedness for all-hazard emergencies through mitigation, planning, response and recovery in the City of Berkeley. Sign up to receive information through the CAHAN. Through CAHAN, you can get health alerts, find guidelines on prevention, coordinate disease investigation efforts, get preparedness planning resources, and more.
